Grills
Electric indoor grills, sized by how many portions they cook at once rather than by wattage. A contact grill closes onto the food and heats both sides at the same time, which halves cooking time and is what makes a panini press a panini press. A health grill is a contact grill with a sloped, ridged plate so fat drains away into a tray instead of sitting under the food. An open flat plate or griddle heats one side only, gives you room to cook several things side by side and is closer to a pan, which suits breakfasts and anything that would be crushed by a closing lid. Teppanyaki grills take that idea to a long open plate designed to be used at the table. A rotisserie turns the food instead, for whole chickens and joints. Removable plates are the feature worth paying attention to, because a fixed plate has to be cleaned in place while removable ones go in the sink or dishwasher, and that difference decides whether a grill gets used or stays in a cupboard. Portion counts here run from 4 up to 10, so match the number to the household rather than buying the largest.
George Foreman is by far the widest range, covering Fit health grills in small, medium and large, steel health grills at 5, 7 and 10 portions, a 10 portion entertaining grill and griddle, an Immersa family medium grill, the Flexe grill and a smokeless contact grill with removable plates. Quest supplies a compact twin panini press and grill, an electric rotisserie grill and an X70 electric teppanyaki grill at 1800W measuring 70cm by 23cm. Ninja makes the Sizzle and Sizzle Pro XL indoor grills, both pairing a grill and a flat plate, and Morphy Richards a 4 portion contact grill with removable plates.
