Clothes Lines & Laundry

Clothes Lines and Laundry

On the days an Irish year allows it, a line dries a load faster and cheaper than anything with a plug, and the choice comes down to how much garden you want to give up. A rotary line folds four arms out over a small circle and holds a full family wash on 30 to 50 metres of line, then closes down to a pole when it is not in use. It needs a ground spike or a concrete socket, and a soil spear is included with the models here. A retractable wall line is the answer where there is no lawn: it mounts on a wall and pulls across a yard or a patio, then winds back into its housing, and several come with a protection cover to keep the mechanism dry. Traditional line by the metre is still the cheapest option of all, and steel core line is worth the small extra over plain poly because it will not stretch and sag across a season. Covers matter more than people expect in this climate, since a rotary line left uncovered through a wet week comes back grey. Beyond the line itself, the range covers ground spikes and winder kits, replacement rotary line refills up to 46 metres, pegs in plastic, stainless steel and jumbo grip, and the laundry accessories that go with drying indoors as well as out: tumble dryer balls that cut drying time and soften without conditioner, lint rollers, bobble and fabric shavers, hanging rails and clothes rail organisers. Everything here is delivered nationwide across the Republic of Ireland, with click and collect at our Athlone store on Shannon Retail Park, Dublin Road.

Brabantia leads on lines with the Topspinner rotary lines at 30 and 50 metres with soil spears, the Wallfix retractable line with protection cover, and the HangOn airer range. De Vielle covers steel core and poly line at 30 metres, winder kits and clothes pegs, and Minky the retractable pull-out line, jumbo grip pegs, dryer balls, lint removers and handy hangers. Black & Decker supplies heated airers and clothes rail organisers, JML the DriBUDDi heated airer and dryer balls, Joseph Joseph the AirFrame airer and quick grip drying hangers, and Dosco and Russell Hobbs pegs and the Revive fabric shaver. For indoor drying see clothes airers and tumble dryers.

Lines, pegs and laundry accessories are low priced enough that the reductions here are small in absolute terms, though the rotary lines and retractable wall lines are the ones worth watching, and they are cheapest out of season in autumn and winter rather than in the spring when everyone buys them. Prices are live all year, so see what is reduced now on tumble dryers on sale.
