LEGO - Younger Builders

LEGO for younger builders starts with the age on the box. LEGO DUPLO bricks are larger than standard LEGO and are made for toddlers, with sets marked 1½+, 2+ and 3+, so they are easy for small hands to grip and click together. From around 4+ children move on to standard bricks, and themes such as Bluey, LEGO Classic and LEGO Friends are designed as that next step, with simpler builds and stories children already know. When buying LEGO for kids, pick a theme the child recognises, check the age mark rather than the size of the box, and remember that DUPLO bricks also fit onto standard LEGO, so nothing is wasted as they grow. See the main LEGO page for every theme.

LEGO Duplo

LEGO DUPLO is the first LEGO for toddlers, with big, chunky bricks that are easy to grip. Sets include the My First 3 in 1 Creative Cute Pets for 1½+, the 3 in 1 Construction Vehicles, Fire Truck with Hose and Firefighter, Ambulance and Driver, Blue Police Motorcycle, Wild Animal Families: Penguins and Lions and Creative Garden and Flowers, with the vehicle and animal sets marked 2+. DUPLO Bluey sets bring the family to the youngest fans.

LEGO Friends

LEGO Friends is built around friendship, animals and days out. The Flower Stand with Roses is marked 5+ and the Panda Sanctuary Animal Care 7+, and other sets include the Nature Glamping Cabin, Fun Water Park Day, Candy and Cupcake Ferris Wheel, Spinning Flower and Fairy Teacup Ride and the Ice Cream and Balloon Stand.

LEGO Bluey

LEGO Bluey sets recreate the Heeler family's world. DUPLO Bluey sets for toddlers include Bluey's Family House with Memory Game and Ice Cream Trip with Bluey, while Bluey's Beach and Family Car Trip and Playground Fun with Bluey and Chloe are standard brick sets marked 4+, joined by School with Rusty and Bluey and Grannies with Bingo and Bluey.

LEGO Classic

LEGO Classic is open-ended creative building, with mixed bricks and ideas rather than a single model. The Creative Food Friends box (4+) and Magical Transparent Box (5+) suit children who like to invent their own builds, and the bricks work with every other LEGO set at home.

LEGO Super Mario

LEGO Super Mario celebrates Nintendo's gaming heroes. The LEGO Game Boy is an 18+ display model of the classic handheld console, built for adult Nintendo fans rather than younger children.
