Speed Champions is the licensed car theme built to a consistent scale, and that consistency is the whole appeal: every model is roughly the same size, eight studs wide, so cars from different manufacturers and different years line up together as a collection and stay in proportion. It is a far quicker build than Technic, usually an hour or two with standard bricks rather than beams and gears, which makes it accessible to a younger builder and to an adult wanting something finished in an evening. Each set includes a minifigure driver, and most come with display elements. The range divides by what the buyer follows. Current Formula 1 cars appeal to anyone watching the season, and because they are officially licensed the liveries and sponsor details are accurate to the real car rather than approximated. Road-going hypercars and supercars appeal on the strength of the car itself. Character cars from film franchises sit slightly apart and suit younger children who know the story rather than the marque. Set number is worth noting when buying, since F1 models are updated season by season and a number identifies the exact car and year. Sets are designed for display as much as play, so shelf space is a fair consideration.
