Battery Operated Christmas Lights

Battery Operated Christmas Lights

Battery Christmas lights solve the problem every house has: the place you want lights is nowhere near a socket. A wreath on the front door, a garland up a banister, a windowsill in an upstairs bedroom, a mantelpiece, a porch, a shed or a garden tree at the end of a lawn. A battery set goes up in two minutes with no cable to hide and no extension lead trailing across a hall, and that convenience is worth more than the brightness you give up.

Timers Are the Feature That Matters

A timer is what makes a battery set practical rather than annoying. The standard pattern is six hours on and eighteen off, so you switch it on once in the evening and it repeats at the same time every day for the rest of the season without anyone touching it. Without one you are either leaving them on and flattening the batteries in a week, or climbing to a windowsill twice a day.

Battery Life and Which Batteries to Buy

LED sets draw very little, so a set on a timer will usually run most of the season on one set of cells. Rechargeable AA and AAA cells pay for themselves within a single Christmas if you are running several sets, and they hold voltage better in the cold than cheap alkalines, which matters for anything going outside. Keep spare batteries in the house before December rather than hunting for them on Christmas Eve.

Battery Lights Outdoors

Battery operated outdoor Christmas lights need the battery box itself to be weather rated, not just the string, and the box should sit off the ground and out of standing water. In an Irish December that is the part that fails, not the LEDs.

Battery sets here come from Premier, covering 40 LED Ultrabrights, 100 and 200 LED Microbrights, 100, 200 and 1,000 LED sets and flicker candles, all with timers, in warm white, white and multi coloured, and from Festive with 200 LED battery Firefly timer lights. For batteries and timers see Christmas electrics and setup, and for plug in sets see mains powered Christmas lights.

Battery sets peak in November and December with the rest of the category. See what is reduced now in clearance.
