Christmas Garlands

Christmas Garlands

A garland is the quickest way to make a room read as decorated, because it draws a line along the mantel or up the bannister that the eye follows. Length is what people get wrong. A standard mantel takes 1.8m to 2.7m if you want any drape at the ends rather than a straight strip, and a flight of stairs wants roughly one and a half times the length of the handrail so it can swag between fixings. Measure before you order, because a garland cut short looks worse than no garland at all.

Pre Lit and Plain Garlands for Mantels and Bannisters

Pre lit garlands come with warm white LEDs already threaded through the foliage, usually battery operated with a timer so you are not running a lead along a bannister, or on a mains plug for a mantel with a socket nearby. Plain garlands let you add your own lights and match them to the tree exactly. Either way, look for wired tips you can bend, because a garland you can shape around a newel post sits far better than one that holds a single flat profile. Pairing Garlands with Door Wreaths

Garlands and wreaths are usually bought as a pair for the front door, and the foliage has to match. Greens differ noticeably between brands, so take both from the same range where you can. See Christmas wreaths for the door, pre lit and plain.

Building the Rest of the Display

Once the garland is up, the mantel usually wants a candle bridge or standing figures beside it and the tree needs to match the same white. Our Christmas decorations range covers the room, and warm white Christmas lights keep the tone consistent from the stairs to the tree.

Brands here include Kaemingk, Everlands, Premier and Decoris.

Garland demand peaks in November, so the longer lengths and the pre lit options sell through first.
