Christmas Wreaths

The wreath is the first decoration anyone sees, and on an Irish front door it has to survive eight weeks of wind and rain. Artificial wreaths hold their shape and colour through that where a fresh one browns by mid December, and the better ones use mixed needle types and a few pine cones so they do not read as plastic from the path. Diameter is the main decision: 40cm to 50cm suits a standard front door, 60cm and up is for a wide or double door, and anything under 35cm is really for an interior door or a window.

Pre Lit and Plain Christmas Wreaths

Pre lit wreaths come with warm white LEDs already wired in, either battery operated with a timer in the back or on a mains lead if there is an outdoor socket near the door. Battery is the usual answer on a front door, and a six hour on, eighteen hour off timer means you set it once in November and leave it. Matching Wreaths and Garlands

A wreath on the door and a garland over it is the standard pairing, and it only works if the foliage matches. Buy them together where you can, or at least from the same range, because greens vary more between brands than you would expect. Outdoor Christmas Door Displays

If the wreath is going outside, check the IP rating on anything lit and use an outdoor rated extension lead, not an indoor one run through a window.
