Choosing the right dehumidifier comes down to room size and how much moisture needs to come out of the air each day. A small bedroom, wardrobe or press is well served by a compact 0.7 litre unit or a passive moisture absorber, refilled with crystal tablets or a scented cartridge such as waterfall, neutral, lavender or flower meadow, rather than plugged in at all. Bathrooms and single bedrooms with persistent condensation usually call for a 10 or 12 litre compact model, while larger bedrooms, open-plan living rooms and kitchens need the extraction power of a 16 or 20 litre unit to keep pace with cooking, indoor drying and daily window condensation. For sheds, garages, worksites or a house recovering from a flood or renovation, a heavy-duty 30 litre industrial dehumidifier clears damp air fastest. Compressor-based electric units are the more effective long-term fix for mould and black spot on walls, while moisture absorber crystals and refill packs suit smaller enclosed spaces such as wardrobes, caravans and under-stairs presses where running a plug-in unit is not practical.
