Light Up Christmas Decorations

Lit decorations are the ones that do the work after four o'clock, which in an Irish December is most of the evening. These are self contained pieces with the LEDs already built in: lanterns, lit houses and villages, standing reindeer, snowmen, stars and acrylic figures. Most are battery operated with a built in timer, typically six hours on and eighteen hours off, so you set them once in November and they come on at the same time every evening without being touched. The mains powered pieces are the larger outdoor ones, and those need an outdoor rated socket or an IP rated extension.

Indoor Lit Figures, Lanterns and Houses

Lanterns and lit ceramic or resin houses are the most useful indoor pieces because they sit on a windowsill and read from both sides of the glass. Outdoor Lit Decorations and Weatherproofing

Anything going outside needs an IP rating on the unit and on every connection. Use an outdoor rated extension lead and a weatherproof connection box for the joins, not an indoor lead run out through a window. Rope light figures and acrylic reindeer hold up well through a wet winter where fabric pieces do not. Window Displays: Bridges, Stars and Figures Together

A window display usually combines a candle bridge on the sill with a lit figure or star beside it. Keep every piece in the same white, because warm and cool white side by side in one window is the most common mistake and it is obvious from the road.
