Multi-Coloured Christmas Lights

Multi Coloured Christmas Lights

Coloured Christmas lights are the traditional family tree, and they have come back strongly after a decade of everyone going warm white. A multi coloured set does something white cannot: it reads as Christmas from across a room on its own, with no decorations needed, which is why it suits a tree in a playroom, a child's bedroom or a kitchen where the tree is secondary. It is also the forgiving choice on a tree dressed with mismatched decorations collected over years, because colour hides what a single tone exposes.

Multi Coloured or Single Colour

Multi coloured sets cycle red, green, blue, amber and warm white along the string. If you want a quieter effect, a multi action set lets you hold a single steady sequence rather than running the chase, which most people settle on after the first evening. Keep the whole tree one way or the other: a few coloured bulbs mixed into a white set looks like a fault rather than a feature.

Coloured Lights Outdoors

Outdoors, colour carries further than white and is the better choice on a hedge, a garden tree or a porch that competes with street lighting. Rainbow curtain and tinsel rope options give the same effect in a window. Anything outside needs to be rated for exterior use and run from a weatherproof connection box.

Coloured sets here come from Premier, covering Clusterbrights at 480, 2,000, 3,000 and 5,000 LEDs, battery sets from 40 to 1,000 LEDs with timers, the Flexibrights rainbow star curtain light and an LED rainbow tinsel rope. Coloured sets peak in November and December alongside the rest of the category. See what is reduced now in clearance.
