Portable Gas Stoves
A portable gas stove, also sold as a camping gas stove, a portable gas hob or a portable gas cooker, puts a working ring anywhere there is no electricity, and the choice comes down to burners and fuel. A single burner stove is the compact option, light enough for a rucksack, a boot or a fishing bag, and it boils a kettle or heats a pan for one or two people. A double burner unit at around 4.5kW lets you run a pot and a pan at once and usually adds a grill plate, which is the difference between heating soup and cooking a proper meal for a household, and most arrive in a carry case that keeps the whole thing clean between trips. Burner material is worth checking, since cast iron burners hold heat better and sit more steadily under a heavy pot than pressed steel. Fuel is the other half of the decision and it is the part people get wrong. Most single burner stoves take a clip in butane cartridge, the flat aerosol style canister, and most screw fit camping stoves take an EN417 threaded cartridge. The two are not interchangeable, so confirm which one a stove takes before ordering fuel for it. Larger stoves and grills run off a refillable cylinder through a regulator and hose, bought separately. Indoors, treat a gas stove the way you would a gas heater: ventilate the room, keep it on a heatproof surface well away from anything that can catch, and never leave it lit unattended.
Milestone covers single burner camping stoves and stove and cartridge bundles, with GoSystem across single and double burner stoves and grills. For the cartridges and cylinders these take see Gas Canisters & Cartridges, for heat rather than cooking see Gas Heaters, and for the wider outage range see Power Cut & Emergency Essentials.
