Drones

A drone with a camera is the simplest way to capture aerial photos and video of the coast, the countryside, family events, sport and property. Modern camera drones are stabilised by a motorised gimbal, hold their position using satellite positioning and onboard sensors, and return home automatically when the battery runs low or the signal drops, so a first flight is far easier than most people expect. Choosing the right drone comes down to size and weight, camera quality, flight time, obstacle sensing and how you want to fly it, whether that is a compact drone for travel, a professional drone for high-end photo and video work or an FPV drone for immersive flying.

Mini drones and small drones with cameras are light, fold down to fit a jacket pocket or small bag, and are the natural choice for beginners, hikers and travellers. Despite their size, they can shoot 4K video and take high-resolution stills for sharing straight to social media. Larger, professional drones carry bigger camera sensors for better low-light performance, smoother zoom and richer colour, along with longer range and stronger wind resistance for demanding Irish weather. Obstacle sensing helps the drone avoid trees, buildings and cliffs, and subject tracking lets a tracking drone follow you while you cycle, run, kayak or walk.

FPV drones (first person view) are flown through goggles that show a live feed from the drone's camera, giving a pilot's-eye view of every turn and dive. They are built for immersive, fast and creative flying, and many can be flown with a motion controller that steers the drone as you tilt your hand, which makes FPV flying more approachable for new pilots. Palm-sized drones designed for selfies and vlogging can take off from your hand and follow you automatically, flying from a phone app without a separate controller.

How you fly matters too. Some drones fly from a controller that holds your phone as the screen, while others come with a screen controller that has its own bright built-in display, so there is no need to tie up your phone or worry about notifications mid-flight. Combo kits add spare batteries, a charging hub and a carry bag or case, which is the practical choice for longer flying sessions because each battery gives a limited flight time. Check the stated flight time per battery, the maximum transmission range, wind resistance and video resolution and frame rate before deciding.

Drone rules in Ireland follow EU drone regulations. Depending on a drone's weight and whether it carries a camera, you may need to register as a drone operator with the Irish Aviation Authority and complete online training before you fly. Always keep your drone in sight, respect people's privacy, stay well away from airports, crowds and restricted areas, and check the latest guidance from the Irish Aviation Authority before your first flight, as requirements can change.

DJI Microphones

Wireless microphones clip onto clothing to capture clear voice for vlogging, interviews, podcasts, social media video and live streaming, far better than a camera or phone's built-in mic. Two-transmitter kits record two people at once into a single receiver that plugs into a camera, phone or computer, and a charging case keeps the transmitters and receiver topped up between takes. A lavalier mic can be added for discreet, close-to-mouth recording. Compare transmission range, battery life, noise cancellation, onboard recording as a backup and the receiver's connections for your camera or phone.

DJI Gimbals

A smartphone gimbal is a handheld stabiliser with motors that cancel out shake, so phone video looks smooth while you walk, run or pan. It is the easiest upgrade for anyone filming travel, family events, sport or social media content on a phone. Look for subject tracking that keeps a person centred in shot, a foldable design that packs into a bag, a built-in extension rod or tripod for selfies and group shots, and battery life that will last a full day of filming. Check that your phone's size and weight suit the gimbal's clamp.

DJI Action Cameras

Action cameras are small, rugged and waterproof cameras for mountain biking, surfing, skiing, hiking, motorsport and travel. They mount on a helmet, handlebar, chest or car, shoot stabilised 4K video and can go underwater without a housing to their rated depth. 360 cameras capture every direction at once so you can choose the framing later. Compare video resolution and frame rate, stabilisation, low-light performance, battery life in cold weather and the mounts included, as adventure combo kits add extra batteries and accessories for longer days out.

DJI Drones

Camera drones cover every style of flying, from palm-sized selfie drones that launch from your hand to lightweight mini drones for travel, immersive FPV drones and professional drones with large camera sensors. Choose by what you want to capture and how far you will carry it: mini drones suit hikers and beginners, while larger professional models offer better low-light video and stronger wind handling. Look at camera resolution, flight time per battery, obstacle sensing, transmission range and whether a combo kit with spare batteries and a screen controller suits the way you fly.

DJI Osmo Pocket Cameras

Pocket gimbal cameras combine a small camera and a three-axis stabiliser in a handheld body that fits a jacket pocket, giving smooth, cinematic video for vlogging, travel and family moments without a separate gimbal or phone. A flip-out or rotating screen makes framing yourself easy, and face tracking keeps you in shot as you move. Creator combo kits add a wireless microphone, wide-angle lens and grip for content creators. Compare sensor size for low-light video, battery life, built-in microphones and how quickly footage transfers to your phone for editing and sharing.

Drones Sale

Drones Sale gathers reduced drones for sale and drone combo kits in one place, including mini drones, FPV drones and camera drones for beginners and experienced pilots. The same buying checks apply as for any new drone: camera resolution, flight time per battery, obstacle sensing and whether you want a combo kit with spare batteries and a screen controller. A drone sale is a good time to add a carry case or extra batteries. Sale stock changes often, so compare each drone against what you want to film before you choose.
