Christmas Shop Ireland

Christmas decorating in Ireland divides into three jobs and they are worth thinking about separately, because the buying decisions are different and so is the timing. The first is the tree and everything on it: baubles, tinsel, a skirt for the base and Christmas tree lights sized to the height. The working rule is roughly 100 bulbs per foot of tree, so a 7ft tree wants about 700, and most people buy half that the first time. The second is the room: a wreath on the door, a garland along a mantelpiece or a banister, candle bridges in the windows, lanterns, and the standing figures that carry a hall. The third is outdoor Christmas decorations, which need the most planning and which Irish weather punishes hardest.

Anything going outside must be rated for exterior use, ideally IP44 or better, and it needs a weatherproof connection box rather than an extension lead under a bin bag, because that is the part that fails in the first storm. Plan the run from the socket before you buy, since the distance to the first bulb matters more than the bulb count. Indoors, decide between mains and battery early: mains gives the brightness and length a tree or a facade needs, battery frees a wreath, a window or a shelf from a socket, and a timer on either means you are not switching things off at the wall every night. Then pick a colour temperature, warm white or bright white, and hold it across the house, because the two side by side read as a mistake rather than a choice.

On timing, the thing worth knowing is that Christmas runs two opposite cycles at once. Artificial Christmas trees, outdoor figures, wreaths and the popular light counts peak in November and sell out rather than cheapen, so those are worth buying early at full price. Gifts peak in December. Christmas sale and clearance demand runs the other way entirely and keeps climbing into January, which is when the decorations themselves are actually cheapest. Buy the things that run out early and wait on the things that get marked down.

Artificial Christmas Trees, 6ft to 10ft

Measure floor to ceiling and take off the topper and the stand before choosing a height. A 6ft tree suits an apartment, 7ft and 7.5ft are what most Irish sitting rooms take, and 9ft and 10ft are for a hall or a stairwell. Width matters as much as height, which is why a slim or pencil pine tree earns its place in a corner. Pre lit trees arrive with the lights already wound through, and snowy and frosted finishes look finished with very little on them. Browse Christmas trees.

Christmas Lights, Indoor and Outdoor

Tree lights are spaced for wrapping branches, cluster lights pack far more bulbs into the same length for a dense look, icicle lights go along eaves and gutters, and curtain and window lights fill a frame. Outdoor Christmas lights must be rated for exterior use and run from a weatherproof box. LED sets cost a fraction of the old filament ones to run and stay cool on the tree. See Christmas lights, or go straight to Christmas tree lights, cluster lights and icicle lights.

Christmas Decorations, Indoor and Outdoor

Everything that is not a light set or a tree. Outdoor Christmas decorations carry a driveway or a front garden: standing Santas from 60cm to 90cm, light up rope figures, candy cane arches and illuminated signs. Indoors it is lanterns, tinsel, character pieces and the gonks and lit houses people actually enjoy choosing. Browse Christmas decorations and light up Christmas decorations.

Christmas Wreaths and Garlands

A 76cm Christmas wreath reads from the garden gate where a 50cm one disappears, so buy larger than instinct suggests for a front door. A matching garland at nine feet by twelve inches runs a banister or a mantelpiece, and a staircase usually needs two or three lengths to swag properly rather than lie flat. Snowy and frosted finishes look finished without additions, and pre lit versions carry their own warm white LEDs. See Christmas wreaths and Christmas garlands.

Christmas Baubles and Tree Decorations

Shatterproof baubles are the sensible choice in a house with children or a cat, and they come in packs sized for a whole tree rather than as singles. Keep to two or three colours across the tree and let the lights do the rest. A Christmas tree skirt covers the stand and catches needles, which is the difference between a tree that looks finished and one that does not. Browse Christmas baubles and Christmas tree skirts.

Christmas Candle Bridges and Window Lights

A candle bridge, or candle arch, is the light that goes in the window, and in Ireland it carries more meaning than the shape alone suggests. Traditional seven light wooden arches suit a sash or cottage window; modern LED towers in silver and white suit a plain modern one. Check there is a socket under the window before buying mains rather than battery. See candle bridges and curtain and window lights.

Christmas Electrics and Setup

The unglamorous half of a display and the half that fails. Weatherproof outdoor boxes and garden spikes keep a connection dry, 24 hour plug in timers mean nobody is switching lights off at the wall, surge protected extension leads carry the load safely, and adhesive hooks and clips hang a garland without marking the paint. Batteries for the battery sets are here too. Browse Christmas electrics and setup.

Christmas Gifts and Gift Ideas

Christmas gift demand peaks in December, later than decorations, and it concentrates on the appliances and gadgets that go under the tree rather than on the tree itself. Air fryers, robot vacuums, coffee machines, televisions, hair styling and tablets are the categories that move. See the Christmas gift range.

Christmas Sale, Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November. For Christmas it is the real event for gifting rather than for decorations, because that is the weekend the televisions, air fryers, robot vacuums and coffee machines people put under the tree take their deepest cuts of the year. Decoration and Christmas tree sale prices run the other way: they keep improving into January, once the range is being cleared. Shop the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and everything currently reduced in clearance.

Premier covers Treebrights and Clusterbrights from 480 to 5,000 LEDs with timers, battery Microbrights and Ultrabrights, Flexibrights star and snowflake curtain lights, flicker candles and large LED signs and rope figures. Festive covers Firefly fine wire sets from 300 to 1,000, colour changing icicle lights, standing Santas, prelit bows and tinsel. Three Kings is the name for character decorations, including the Gonk, GlamJonk, Squeezy Santa and InLit DecorHouse ranges. Everlands, National Tree Company, Puleo and Classic Christmas cover the trees, Decoris the shatterproof baubles, WGP the lanterns, Lumineo and Kaemingk the garden stakes, candle bridges and lit signs, and Masterplug the weatherproof outdoor connection boxes that make a display safe.
