LEGO - Popular Themes

The most popular LEGO themes are the ones children ask for by name: LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Technic, LEGO Ninjago and LEGO City, followed closely by Marvel and DC super heroes, Minecraft and Disney. Choosing between them comes down to two things, the world the child already loves and the age printed on the box. Battle packs, microfighters and pull-back cars are the quick, small builds that make good first sets and party gifts, while vehicles, mechs and castles give a longer build and more play afterwards. Technic and Speed Champions lean towards older children, teenagers and adults who enjoy working models and licensed cars, and the box age is the honest guide to how fiddly a build will be. Every set is compatible with every other LEGO brick, so themes mix freely once built. See the main LEGO page for every theme.

LEGO City

LEGO City is the everyday-world theme, built around police, fire and rescue vehicles, construction machines and town life. Sets include the Police Boat Chase, Police Motorcycle Chase, Fire Ladder Truck, Cement Mixer, Tractor, Fries Food Truck and the City Drive Through Car Wash, alongside the F1 Williams Racing and Haas F1 race cars. Box ages sit between 4+ and 7+, so City suits younger builders moving on from DUPLO.

LEGO Technic

LEGO Technic swaps plain bricks for gears, axles and working mechanisms. Monster Jam pull-back trucks, the Backhoe Loader and the John Deere 1470H Wheeled Harvester are 7+ builds, while the Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car, Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance and 1966 Ford GT40 MKII Race Car are 18+ display models. Licensed cars include the Aston Martin Valkyrie, Ferrari FXX K, Dodge Viper GTS-R and Fast and Furious Dodge Charger.

LEGO Star Wars®

LEGO Star Wars covers starfighters, walkers, mechs and battle packs from the films and series. Builds include the Mandalorian and Grogu's Speeder Bike, Mando and Grogu's N-1 Starfighter, Darth Maul Mech, Imperial Remnant AT-AT and Offworld Sandcrawler, with the AT-ST Walker and Boba Fett set aimed at adult collectors. The Darth Vader and Yoda busts are display pieces, and a LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar is in for Christmas.

LEGO Super Heroes

LEGO Super Heroes brings Marvel and DC characters into brick form, from LEGO Spider-Man and Iron Man to LEGO Batman. Sets include Spider-Man vs. Venom Muscle Car, Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock Subway Train Scene, Iron Man Mech vs. Ultron, the Avengers: Doomsday Quinjet and Batman Tumbler vs. Two-Face and The Joker. The Doctor Doom Bust is a display piece, and the LEGO Marvel Advent Calendar counts down to Christmas.

LEGO Speed Champions

LEGO Speed Champions builds officially licensed race and road cars at minifigure scale, rated 9+ and 10+ on the box. Formula 1 fans can pick from the Ferrari SF-24, McLaren MCL38, Aston Martin Aramco AMR24, Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 and Williams Racing FW46, while supercars include the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Bugatti Centodieci and Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale. Film cars include the Back to the Future Time Machine and Lightning McQueen.

LEGO Ninjago

LEGO Ninjago follows the ninja team through dragons, mechs and spinjitzu battles. Lloyd's Green Forest Dragon is marked 6+ and Rontu the Master Dragon 7+, and other sets include Zane's Battle Suit Mech, Arin's Spinjitzu Battle Mech and Kai's Dragon Mech Battle Pack, plus the Ninja Charger 15th Anniversary set. Lloyd's Pull-Back Race Car and Ninja Cole's Car are quick builds for younger fans.

LEGO Minecraft

LEGO Minecraft turns the game's blocky biomes and mobs into real bricks. Sets include The Nether Lava Battle, The Illager Desert Patrol, The Baby Pig House, Steve's Taiga Adventure, the Minecraft Chicken Farm and The Pale Garden, with The Creeper and The Ender Dragon for older fans. The Nether Lava Battle is marked 6+ and The Creeper 10+, so there are builds for younger players and older fans alike.

LEGO Disney

LEGO Disney covers princess castles and Disney and Pixar favourites. Sets include the Arendelle Frozen Castle, Elsa's Ice Castle and Snow Ride Adventure, Belle and the Beast's Enchanted Castle, The Cinderella Animal Friends Castle, Stitch and Scrump, Heihei and Lucky and Penny 101 Dalmatians Puppies. WALL-E and EVE is an 18+ display build for adult Pixar fans.
