Brightness in lumens is the specification that decides whether a projector works in your room, and it matters more than resolution. Lower output around 1,000 lumens needs the room properly dark, which suits a bedroom or a dedicated cinema space in the evening. Around 3,000 lumens will hold a watchable picture with some ambient light, which is what a living room actually has. Resolution then sets the detail: Full HD 1080p is the sensible baseline for film and sport, WXGA suits presentations and casual viewing, and 4K PRO UHD is for a large screen where you sit close enough to see the difference. Light source affects both lifespan and start-up, as laser and LED projectors reach full brightness almost immediately and run for tens of thousands of hours, where traditional lamps need warm-up and eventual replacement. Size and power decide where it can go. Mini and portable projectors run on internal batteries and fit in a bag, which makes them the choice for a garden screening or moving between rooms, at the cost of brightness. Home cinema models stay put and give more picture for the money. Smart projectors run streaming apps built in with no separate box or laptop needed. Check throw distance against the room depth before buying, because that decides the screen size you will actually get.
