Length is the usual reason for replacing a hose rather than wear, and it is worth measuring the run properly before ordering. 1.5 metre is the standard supplied with most showers and suits a riser rail over a shower tray. 1.75 metre and 2 metre give reach for a bath, where the head needs to get to the far end and down to a child or a dog, and a longer hose costs nothing in performance. A stretch hose extends under use and retracts afterwards, which suits a small enclosure where a long hose would coil on the floor. Fittings are the thing that catches people out, though less often than expected: most domestic hoses use a standard half inch connection at both ends, so a replacement generally screws straight on, but check whether the existing hose has a cone or conical washer at the head end and reuse or replace it, because that washer is what actually seals the joint. Construction decides how long it lasts. Stainless steel wrapped hoses resist kinking and splitting and are the sensible default. PVC hoses are lighter, cheaper and available in white to match older fittings, but they crack sooner where they bend at the head. Black and chrome finishes are there to match taps and rails.
