LEGO Minecraft

LEGO Minecraft

LEGO Minecraft translates a game already built from blocks into physical blocks, which is a closer fit than most licensed themes and part of why it works. The sets recreate recognisable biomes, mobs and structures at a chunky scale, using the same square-headed figure design as the game rather than standard minifigures. The practical way to choose is by what the child plays in the game, because a set means far more when it matches something they have built or fought themselves. Mob-focused sets are built around a single creature, and The Creeper is the obvious example since it is the most recognisable enemy in the game. Biome sets recreate a location such as the Nether or a taiga forest, and they usually include a character plus terrain that opens or rearranges. Structure sets cover farms, dungeons and houses, and these give the most ongoing play because they function as a base rather than a scene. Many sets have a transforming or two-sided build, so one model becomes another, which extends play well past the first assembly. Piece counts here sit in the accessible range rather than the display-model range, and sets combine into a larger world, which is exactly how the game itself works.

LEGO supplies the range. Mob and character sets cover The Creeper and Steve's Taiga Adventure. Biome and battle sets cover The Nether Lava Battle, The Pale Garden and The Illager Desert Patrol. Structure and animal sets cover the Zombie Dungeon, the Chicken Farm and The Baby Pig House. For other LEGO themes see LEGO City and LEGO Ninjago.
