White - Christmas Lights

White Christmas Lights

White, sometimes sold as cool white or bright white, is the crisp blue-tinted end of the scale, against the soft yellow of warm white. It is the right choice for a snowy or frosted tree, for a silver and blue decorating scheme, and for a modern interior with white walls and grey floors, where warm white can look slightly yellow against the paint. Outdoors it reads sharper against a dark garden and holds its clarity further from the house.

White or Warm White

The single rule worth following is consistency. White and warm white side by side in the same room read as a mistake rather than a choice, and it is the commonest decorating error in an Irish house at Christmas, usually caused by topping up an old set with a new one. Decide which you are, buy to it, and if you are replacing part of a display replace the whole run rather than half of it.

White Cable and Clear Wire Sets

Cable colour matters as much as bulb colour and almost nobody thinks about it until the lights are up. Green cable disappears into a green tree. White or clear cable disappears against a snowy or flocked tree, a white wall or a pale mantelpiece, and stands out badly on a plain green one. Match the cable to what it is going on, not to the bulb.
