Setup and Care

Assembly and height adjustment:

Attach the handle sections and connect the collection box to the rear of the machine. Select the appropriate height setting before starting: use +10mm for light surface raking and leaf collection, and lower settings down to -5mm for deeper moss and thatch removal. For first-time use on a lawn with heavy moss, start at a higher setting and gradually reduce the depth across multiple passes to avoid stripping the lawn.

Raking technique for best results:

Mow the lawn to its normal height before raking. Work in straight, overlapping rows across the lawn, similar to mowing. The 32cm working width means adjacent passes should overlap slightly to avoid leaving untreated strips. Empty the 50 litre collection box onto the compost heap when full. For heavily mossed lawns, make two passes in perpendicular directions for thorough coverage.

Using the lawn raker for seasonal maintenance:

In spring, rake the lawn to remove winter moss and dead grass before the growing season begins. In autumn, use the +10mm setting for leaf collection before leaves smother the grass. The UniversalRake 900 can also be used during summer to lightly scarify and improve air circulation to the roots. After raking, overseed any bare patches and apply lawn feed for the best recovery.

Cleaning, storage, and tine replacement:

After each use, remove the collection box and shake out remaining debris. Wipe the tines and underside of the drum with a brush or damp cloth to remove compacted moss and grass. Fold the handles down and stack the collection box inside the machine for compact storage at just 40cm. The carbon steel spring tines are individually replaceable when worn. Store in a dry location such as a garden shed or garage to prevent corrosion.
