Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer for Exterior Masonry

What this primer does:

Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer is a solvent-based, clear primer formulated to penetrate and bind unstable, powdery, or friable exterior masonry surfaces. It is the recommended first step in the Weathershield system before applying two full coats of Weathershield Masonry Paint to surfaces that remain chalky or loose after thorough preparation.

Coverage and drying times:

One litre covers up to 12m² on most surfaces, meaning this 5-litre tin treats up to 60m² in a single application. The primer is touch dry in 8-12 hours and ready to recoat after 16-24 hours, allowing the topcoat phase to follow the next day in most conditions.

Ready to use - no mixing required:

This product is supplied ready for use straight from the tin and should not be thinned. Apply by brush or roller only - spray application is not recommended due to the solvent-based formulation. Clean brushes and rollers with brush cleaner or white spirit immediately after use.

When to use this primer:

Use this primer only on dry exterior surfaces - masonry, concrete, or pebbledash - that remain powdery and friable after surface preparation. Sound or new bare masonry does not require this product; in those cases, a thinned first coat of masonry paint is the correct approach. This primer is a specialist treatment for problem surfaces, not a general-purpose sealer.
