This range covers the two ends of a meal, the cooking of it and the serving of it, and they are worth thinking about separately. Baking and ovenware takes in cake tins and loaf tins, mixing bowls, scales, oven dishes and ramekins, roasting trays and the smaller items that only surface at Christmas. Dining covers plates and bowls, glassware, mugs and cups, cutlery and serving pieces, along with barware for the table. Material is the decision that matters most on the cooking side: toughened glass and ceramic go from oven to table and wash easily, while enamel and heavy steel take higher heat and harder use. On the serving side the question is simpler, whether you want a set that matches for a full table or individual pieces that can be replaced one at a time as they break.
