The HW-S61D/XU houses 7 built-in speakers across a 5-channel layout, tuned by the Samsung Audio Lab, all within a single slim bar measuring 62 x 670 x 105 mm. There are no separate subwoofer units or rear speaker boxes to wire up - everything needed for a wide, full soundstage is built in. A dedicated centre speaker handles dialogue reproduction, keeping speech clear and distinct from music and effects.
SpaceFit Sound Pro and Adaptive Sound:
SpaceFit Sound Pro analyses the acoustics of the room and automatically adjusts the audio output to suit the space, so the bar sounds accurate whether it is placed in a small bedroom or a larger sitting room. Adaptive Sound mode reads the audio signal in real time and tailors the processing to match the content type, whether that is a film, sport, or music. Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) detects background noise and boosts dialogue levels to compensate, keeping voices audible without the need to adjust the volume manually.
Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony with compatible Samsung TVs:
The HW-S61D/XU supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS Virtual:X for multi-dimensional audio on supported content. When paired with a compatible 2022-2024 Samsung TV, Q-Symphony allows the TV speakers and the soundbar to operate together as a unified speaker array rather than the TV audio cutting out when the bar is connected. Wireless Dolby Atmos is also available with select 2022-2024 Samsung TVs, removing the need for an HDMI cable to carry the Atmos signal.
Streaming and smart assistant support:
Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity allow music streaming via Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, and Chromecast built-in without needing a separate device. Amazon Alexa is built into the bar for hands-free voice control of music, smart home devices, and general queries. Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby are also supported, and the bar integrates with the Samsung SmartThings app for centralised control alongside other compatible home devices.
Game Mode Pro and expandability:
Game Mode Pro reduces audio latency for a more responsive experience when connected to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X via HDMI 2.1 (eARC). The bar is expandable: the Samsung SWA-W510 wireless subwoofer and SWA-9200S wireless rear speakers can be added separately for a fuller surround setup without additional cabling. Setup and Care
Getting connected:
Connect the soundbar to your TV using the HDMI 2.1 (eARC) port for the best audio quality and CEC control, or use the optical input if your TV does not have an eARC port. The Samsung SmartThings app guides you through Wi-Fi setup and allows you to manage the bar alongside other compatible Samsung devices from a single interface. Amazon Alexa is activated through the app during initial setup, so voice control is ready to use within a few minutes of unboxing.
Pairing with a Samsung TV:
For Q-Symphony and Wireless Dolby Atmos, connect the bar to a compatible 2022-2024 Samsung TV (BU8000 or above, or The Frame) via HDMI eARC. Once connected, Q-Symphony is enabled through the TV sound settings menu, allowing both the TV speakers and soundbar to work together simultaneously. Wireless Dolby Atmos activates automatically when a compatible Samsung TV detects the bar and the feature is enabled in the TV audio menu.
Optimising audio for your room:
SpaceFit Sound Pro can be run at any time from the SmartThings app or the soundbar settings menu - the bar emits test tones and calibrates its output to the room's acoustics in under a minute. Adaptive Sound mode is recommended for everyday TV viewing as it adjusts dynamically to each scene or programme. Night Mode reduces bass and loud peaks for quieter late-evening listening without reducing dialogue clarity.
Care and maintenance:
Wipe the bar with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust from the grille and casing. Avoid using liquid cleaners or spraying directly onto the unit. Keep the HDMI and optical ports free of debris by fitting port covers when inputs are not in use.
