Slim/Pencil Christmas Trees

Slim and Pencil Christmas Trees

A slim tree solves a floor space problem, not a height problem. The measurement that matters is the base diameter, not the feet on the box: a pencil pine at 7ft sits in a fraction of the footprint of a full profile tree at the same height, which is what lets it work in a hallway, a bay window, a landing, or a sitting room where a normal tree would block the walkway. Buy on the width you can give it and the height takes care of itself.

The trade off is depth. A narrow tree has shorter branches, so there is less room to hang decorations in behind the outer tips, and a heavy bauble will pull a slim branch down. Lighter decorations and a tighter palette suit these trees far better than a mixed collection built up over years.

Pencil Pine Trees for Narrow Rooms

Pencil pine is the narrowest profile made, a straight column of dense foliage with almost no taper. It is the right answer for a corner, a porch, a pair either side of a door, or any spot where a conventional tree would have to be pushed against a wall and turned to hide a flat side. Green and snowy finishes run from 7ft through 7.5ft to 8ft, including a Feel Real moulded tip pencil from National Tree Company. Browse the full range of slim and pencil Christmas trees.

Choosing Between Slim and Full Profile

If the floor space is there, a full profile tree gives more depth, holds heavier decorations and photographs better. If it is not, a slim tree at the same height reads as a proper Christmas tree where a shorter full tree just reads as small. Height is what people notice from across a room; width is what they bump into. Compare both in Christmas trees, where the base dimensions are listed on each product.

Lighting and Dressing a Slim Tree

A slim tree needs noticeably fewer lights than a full tree of the same height, because the string wraps a smaller circumference on every turn. Work in towards the trunk and back out to the tips rather than wrapping the outside, or the narrow profile will look like a lit pole. See Christmas tree lights for the right length by tree height, Christmas baubles for the lighter decorations these trees prefer, and Christmas tree skirts to finish the base.

Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November. Trees are the category where that weekend matters most, because the popular heights sell out and are not restocked before Christmas. See Christmas at Heavins for the rest of the season.
