Wired earphones remain the straightforward choice for a specific set of reasons rather than as a fallback. There is no battery to charge and no pairing to fail, latency is effectively zero so audio stays in sync with video and games, and sound quality per euro is generally better than wireless because none of the cost goes into a battery, radio or codec. A built in microphone matters if the earphones will be used for calls or voice notes, and an inline remote lets you answer, pause and change volume without reaching for the phone. Fit is what actually decides sound quality on an in-ear design, because the seal in the ear canal creates the bass response and blocks outside noise; a poor seal makes any earphone sound thin, which is why swapping to a different size of supplied tip is usually the fix rather than the earphone being at fault. Check the connector before buying, since many phones no longer carry a 3.5mm jack and need an adapter.
