Setup and Care

Battery installation and sweeper attachment:

Slide a charged DeWalt 18V XR or FlexVolt battery pack onto the base of the trimmer until it clicks into place. Attach the hedge clippings sweeper accessory to the blade following the user manual instructions. The sweeper clips onto the blade and sits on top of the hedge surface during trimming, pushing cut clippings forward as you sweep. Attach the metal tip guard when working near walls, fences, or the ground to protect the blade tips.

Cutting technique for clean, even hedges:

Grip the D-handle with your dominant hand and the wraparound auxiliary handle with your other hand. Activate the underside secondary switch and squeeze the trigger. For the neatest finish, angle the blade slightly (about 10 degrees) so the tips point inward towards the hedge. This tapered cutting angle encourages the hedge to grow wider at the base and narrower at the top. The 600mm blade covers more surface per sweep, making the DCMHT567N particularly efficient for long, straight hedge runs.

Using the sweeper and metal tip guard:

The sweeper accessory works best when trimming the top of a hedge: sweep the trimmer forward along the top surface and the clippings are pushed off as you cut. For side trimming, the sweeper can be removed. The metal tip guard protects the blade when trimming close to hard surfaces and can remain attached during general use for added blade protection.

Blade care, cleaning, and storage:

After each use, wipe the blades with a dry cloth to remove sap, moisture, and debris. Apply a light coating of blade lubricant or spray oil to protect against rust and maintain smooth cutting action. Hang the trimmer using the integrated wall mount in a dry shed or garage. Remove the battery when the tool is stored for extended periods. Inspect the blades before each use for chips, bending, or damage.
