Setup and Care

Bar, chain, and battery installation:

Attach the 20cm pruning bar and chain following the user manual instructions. Use the onboard wrench (stored inside the bar cover) to tension the chain to the correct tightness: the chain should be snug against the bar with enough slack to pull away slightly by hand. Fill the automatic oiler reservoir with bar and chain oil. Slide a charged DeWalt 18V XR or FlexVolt battery onto the base of the saw until it clicks into place.

Cutting technique and safety:

Grip both handles firmly, activate the safety switch-on lock, and squeeze the variable throttle to start the chain. Allow the chain to reach full speed before making contact with the branch. Let the chain do the cutting work without forcing the bar through the timber. For larger branches, use an undercut first (cutting upward from below) to prevent the branch tearing bark as it falls, then complete the cut from above.

Chain tensioning and automatic oiler maintenance:

Check chain tension before each use and after every 10-15 minutes of cutting. A correctly tensioned chain sits snug against the bar without sagging. The automatic oiler lubricates the chain during operation, but check the oil reservoir level before each session and refill with bar and chain oil as needed. The metal pruning tip guard helps maintain stability when performing upcuts.

Cleaning, storage, and chain replacement:

After use, wipe the bar, chain, and body with a dry cloth to remove sap, sawdust, and moisture. Fit the bar cover for safe storage. Store in a dry location. Remove the battery when not in use for extended periods. Replace the chain (DT20693) when it no longer cuts efficiently after sharpening, and replace the bar (DT20694) if it shows visible wear, bending, or groove damage.
