Test the high-lift function with the lever fully raised. Select a browning setting (start with number 3 for medium toast) and insert two slices of bread. Toast will pop when complete. For the first use, mild smoke or odour from residual manufacturing oils is normal; ensure good ventilation and allow the toaster to cool between the first 2-3 cycles.
