Hose Clips

A hose clip, often called a jubilee clip, is a worm drive band that tightens with a screwdriver to seal a flexible hose onto a rigid pipe or spigot. The only thing that decides which one you need is the outside diameter of the hose once it is pushed onto the fitting, and that is thicker than the hose alone, so measure it assembled rather than loose. Every clip is sold as an adjustable range rather than a single size, and the size to buy is the one where your measurement sits comfortably in the middle of the range. A clip at the very bottom of its range leaves a long tail of band sticking out and can distort the hose, while one at the very top has almost no thread left to tighten and will slip under pressure. The ranges stocked here run 10-16mm, 13-19mm, 16-25mm, 19-29mm, 22-32mm, 25-38mm, 32-42mm and 44-64mm, with a single larger clip covering 100-120mm for waste and ducting work. Most are supplied in pairs, which suits the common job of clamping both ends of a hose run. Tighten firmly but stop when the band bites, because overtightening cuts into a soft hose wall and causes the leak you were trying to prevent.
