Bartoline Linseed Oil Putty for Glazing Wood and Metal Frames
A Traditional Formula That Has Stood the Test of Time:
Bartoline has been producing decorating sundries since 1876, and this linseed oil putty draws on that long-standing expertise. The formula combines mineral filler, linseed oil, plasticiser, and white spirit into a homogeneous compound that handles consistently and remains stable at normal ambient temperatures.
Where and How to Use It:
This putty is suitable for bedding and external fronting of single glass into primed softwood and hardwood frames, as well as glazing primed metal frames and single glass set into concrete or stone surrounds after prior sealing. It also works as a general wood filler for cracks and gaps ahead of painting. It is not suitable for use directly against laminated glass, in bead glazing systems, or with insulated glass units.
Paintable and Weather-Resistant:
Once applied and pressed to give a back bedding of 1 to 2mm, the putty should be left before painting - the first coat is typically applied within 7 to 21 days, with the final coat within 28 days. The cured compound forms a weather-resistant bond and accepts paint over its surface, making it a practical choice where silicone sealants are not appropriate. VOC levels are low.
