DJI Osmo Action 4 - a Compact Action Camera with a Large 1/1.3-Inch Sensor

Built for Low Light and Long Days:

The Osmo Action 4 uses a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor - larger than most action cameras in this class - giving you bigger pixels and noticeably better image quality when the light drops. It records up to 4K at 120fps with a max bitrate of 130 Mbps, and supports 10-bit D-Log M for colour grading in post. The 155° ultra-wide lens with an f/2.8 aperture captures a broad field of view in any direction.

Waterproof Without a Case:

Both the camera body and both touchscreens are waterproof to 18 metres without any housing, carrying an IP68 rating. For more extreme diving, the optional Waterproof Case extends that to 60 metres. The camera also operates in temperatures as low as -20°C, making it practical for winter sports as well as water activities.

Stabilisation That Keeps Up with You:

RockSteady 3.0 and RockSteady 3.0+ provide electronic image stabilisation across all main recording modes. HorizonSteady delivers 360° horizon levelling, keeping your footage straight even through full rotations, while HorizonBalancing handles partial corrections on less extreme angles. The result is smooth, usable footage from mountain bikes, surfboards, and ski runs.

Magnetic Mounting for Fast Changeovers:

The Magnetic Quick-Release system lets you attach, remove, or rotate the camera in seconds without tools. The Standard Combo includes a Quick Release Adapter Mount and a Curved Adhesive Base, so you can be set up and shooting within moments of arriving at your location. QuickSwitch lets you assign up to five custom shooting modes for fast access in the field.

Dual Screens and Extended Battery:

A 2.25-inch rear touchscreen and a 1.4-inch front screen, both running at 750 cd/m² brightness, let you frame and monitor shots from either side of the camera. The included 1770 mAh LiPo battery gives up to 160 minutes of continuous recording at room temperature, and fast charging brings it to 80% in 18 minutes. The Standard Combo adds a second DJI Extreme Battery for back-to-back sessions.

Audio, App, and Storage:

Three built-in microphones record at 48 kHz / 16-bit AAC audio. Pre-recording captures up to 60 seconds before you press record, so you never miss the start of an action. MicroSD cards up to 512 GB are supported, and the DJI LightCut app can automatically edit footage into a finished clip with one tap.

Setup and Care

Getting Started:

Insert a microSD card (up to 512 GB) before first use. Charge the battery via the USB-C PD cable until full, then power on and follow the on-screen setup prompts. Download the DJI LightCut app on iOS or Android to connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth 5.0 for remote control and automatic video editing.

Mounting:

Attach the Horizontal/Vertical Protective Frame and align with the Magnetic Quick-Release adapter for tool-free installation. The Curved Adhesive Base bonds to helmets, boards, or other curved surfaces - allow 24 hours cure time before use in water. Use the Locking Screw to secure the mount for high-vibration activities.

Using in Water and Cold Conditions:

The camera body is rated IP68 and waterproof to 18 m without any housing. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater use and allow to dry fully before charging. In temperatures below 0°C, allow the battery to warm slightly before charging to stay within the 5°C to 40°C charging temperature range.

General Care:

Wipe the lens with a soft, dry cloth after use in dusty or wet environments. Store the camera in a dry location with the lens hood fitted to protect the 155° wide-angle lens. Keep firmware updated via the DJI Mimo or LightCut app to ensure full feature support until at least December 2026.
