Setup and Care

Placement and electrical setup: Position the espresso machine on a level, stable worktop away from direct sunlight and heat sources (cookers, radiators). Ensure the outlet has adequate ventilation space around the machine - the rear vent releases steam during operation. Plug into a standard 220-240V socket and allow 10-15 minutes for the boiler to reach optimal temperature on first use. The machine will indicate ready status with an illuminated button.

Initial water tank preparation and descent: Fill the 1.5 litre tank with fresh, cold filtered water (filtered water extends boiler life by reducing mineral buildup). Insert the tank and secure it firmly. Allow 5-10 minutes after plugging in for the heating element to reach brewing temperature. Test the steam wand by briefly opening the steam valve into an empty cup - this primes the boiler and removes any air pockets.

Routine maintenance and descaling: After each use, empty the drip tray and run water through the group head and steam wand whilst powered on to flush out residual coffee grounds. Weekly, soak the removable basket and tamper in hot water to remove built-up oils. Descale the boiler monthly using white vinegar or a commercial espresso machine descaler (dissolve in the water tank, run the solution through the group head and steam wand, then flush thoroughly with fresh water). Wipe the exterior and cup warmer with a damp cloth to remove dust and steam condensation.

Optimising extraction and milk frothing: For ground coffee, tamp the portafilter firmly and level before inserting into the group head - consistent tamping pressure improves extraction. Start with medium-fine ground coffee and adjust coarseness if extraction tastes bitter (too fine/slow) or sour (too coarse/fast). For milk frothing, position the steam wand tip just below the milk surface whilst steaming, then angle the jug to create a swirling vortex for even heat distribution and microfoam formation. Purge the steam wand immediately after use to prevent milk buildup and blockages.
