The Archer BE400 runs on the 802.11be Wi-Fi 7 standard, delivering a combined theoretical throughput of 6,500 Mbps across its two bands - 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 5,764 Mbps on 5 GHz. Multi-Link Operation (MLO) allows the router to transmit data across both bands simultaneously, reducing latency and improving reliability compared to older Wi-Fi standards. 4K-QAM modulation packs 20% more data per transmission cycle than Wi-Fi 6's 1K-QAM, making a practical difference for households running several devices at once.

Wired connections that keep pace with fast broadband:

Two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports - one WAN and one LAN - mean wired devices are no longer limited to the 1 Gbps ceiling of standard ports. Three further Gigabit LAN ports bring the total to five wired connections for desktops, games consoles, smart TVs, and network storage. A USB 3.0 port on the side supports NTFS, exFAT, HFS+, and FAT32 drives for shared file access via FTP, Samba, or Media Server.

Mesh-ready and straightforward to manage:

EasyMesh compatibility means the Archer BE400 can act as the main node in a multi-room mesh network - pair it with any EasyMesh-compatible extender or router to eliminate dead zones without replacing existing hardware. Setup and ongoing management are handled through the Tether app, with Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility for voice control. Two mounting holes on the rear allow wall installation where bench space is limited.

Security and VPN built in:

The router supports WPA3 encryption alongside WPA/WPA2-Enterprise (802.1x) and includes both VPN Server and VPN Client functionality covering OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, and WireGuard protocols. NordVPN and Surfshark are supported natively as VPN clients, and VPN connections can be applied per device rather than to the whole network. Setup and Care

Getting connected:

Connect the included Ethernet cable from your broadband modem or ONT to the 2.5 Gbps WAN port, then power on the router. Open the Tether app on iOS or Android and follow the guided setup to configure your Wi-Fi name and password. The Tether app also handles firmware updates, parental controls, and HomeShield settings from a single dashboard.

Placement tips:

Position the Archer BE400 in a central, open location to achieve the best wireless coverage across a 3-bedroom home. The router can be wall-mounted using the two holes on the rear panel where surface space is limited. Keep it clear of enclosed cabinets and away from other wireless devices operating on the 2.4 GHz band.

Expanding your network:

To extend coverage to additional rooms or outbuildings, pair the Archer BE400 with any EasyMesh-compatible TP-Link router or range extender. The EasyMesh system creates a single unified network name so devices roam between nodes automatically. Wired backhaul through the 2.5 Gbps LAN port gives the best performance between nodes where cabling is practical.

Keeping the router in good condition:

The mesh housing is designed to allow airflow and the unit runs at low temperatures even under sustained load. Wipe the exterior with a dry or lightly damp cloth - avoid liquid cleaners near the ventilation slots. Check the Tether app periodically for firmware updates, which TP-Link issues to maintain security and add features.
