Air Fryer Accessories

Two things extend the life of an air fryer and both are here. Liners are the first. A silicone or paper liner sits in the basket, catches the grease and the crumbs, and turns washing up into lifting one thing out and rinsing it, which matters because the non-stick coating on a basket is the part that fails first and it fails from scouring. Shape is what you need to get right rather than brand: round liners suit the circular baskets on most single drawer machines, square and rectangular ones suit drawer-shaped baskets, and four packs sized for dual basket machines cover both drawers twice so you are not washing between courses. Measure the basket rather than going by the machine's litre rating, since two 7.6 litre fryers can have quite differently shaped baskets, and check that a liner does not block the airflow holes in the base, because that is what makes food crisp. Silicone liners are reusable and dishwasher safe; paper is disposable and better for anything very greasy. The second thing is cleaning. Dedicated air fryer cleaners are formulated to lift baked-on grease from the heating element and the basket coating without abrasives, which is the only safe way to deal with the brown residue that builds up on the element above the basket and eventually starts to smoke. A quick wipe after each use and a proper clean every few weeks is the difference between a machine that lasts and one that gets replaced.
