These are portable folding panels for recharging a power station away from mains electricity, not roof-mounted panels for a house, and that distinction matters before buying. Wattage is the headline figure and it sets how fast a panel refills a battery: as a rough guide, a 400W panel in good conditions recharges a 1kWh power station in roughly three to four hours, where a 60W panel would take most of a day. Real output is always below the rated figure though, because rating is measured under laboratory conditions, and Irish light levels, cloud, time of year and panel angle all reduce it. Plan on considerably less than the number on the box and size up rather than down. Match the panel to the station: a large capacity battery paired with a small panel never fully charges in a day, which defeats the purpose. Lightweight versions trade some durability for a substantially lower carry weight, which is the deciding factor if the panel is going into a rucksack rather than a van. USB-C panels are a different proposition again, charging phones, tablets and small devices directly with no power station involved, so they suit hiking and festivals rather than camp power.
