Sowing and repair is grass seed, sold by coverage and by type: quick grow and fast grass mixes for bare patches you want closed in days, shady lawn mixes for ground under trees and north-facing gardens, luxury and multi purpose mixes for a general lawn, and tough grass for a garden that takes real traffic from children and dogs. Bag sizes run from 420g and 480g for patching up to 5kg, 10kg and 20kg for sowing a new lawn outright. Feeding is next, either a straight lawn feed or a 4 in 1 weed, feed and mosskiller that greens the grass and kills moss and broadleaf weeds in one pass, sized by square metres rather than weight, with 80 square metre boxes and refills the common household size. Weed control covers selective lawn weedkiller that spares grass and path weedkiller that does not. Finally there is the alternative to grass entirely: artificial grass by the metre, weed control fabric and polythene for beds and paths, and wildflower seed mixes for anyone converting part of a lawn to a pollinator meadow.

Hygeia, an Irish manufacturer, covers Green Force 4 in 1 weed feed and mosskiller in 15kg plus the Organic Nature Safe lawn feed, lawn aid and liquid feed range. Thompson and Morgan handles wildflower and pollinator mixes in cornfield annuals, woodland shade, classic meadow and ultimate mixes, joined by Unwins and Westland Nature's Haven mixes in 1.2kg and 4kg.
