Two units, one expandable system:

The EcoFlow RIVER 3 Max pairs the RIVER 3 Plus base unit with an EB300 extra battery, connected via EcoFlow's wire-free Pogo Pin technology to give a combined capacity of 572Wh. No cables or screws are needed between the two units, and total capacity can be extended further to 858Wh by adding a second EB300 battery sold separately. The EcoFlow RIVER 3 Max weighs 9.09kg as a combined unit and measures 234 x 232 x 238mm, making it straightforward to carry between rooms or load into a vehicle.

Fast recharging with X-Stream and X-GaN Power:

Using EcoFlow's X-Stream fast charge technology alongside the X-GaN Power inverter, the RIVER 3 Max recharges from 0 to 100% via a standard wall socket in 1.5 hours. The X-GaN inverter keeps operating noise below 30dB, so it can run overnight without disturbance. Car charging via the included cable takes approximately 3.3 hours, and solar input accepts up to 220W for off-grid recharging.

X-Boost for higher-draw appliances:

The RIVER 3 Max outputs 600W continuously from its three AC sockets, with a 1200W surge capacity for motor start-up loads. EcoFlow's X-Boost function extends that usable output to 1200W continuous for resistive appliances such as hair dryers and portable heaters. The output waveform is pure sine wave, making it compatible with sensitive electronics including medical devices and audio equipment.

UPS protection under 10 milliseconds:

The RIVER 3 Max includes a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) function with a switchover time of under 10ms when mains power is interrupted. This is fast enough that desktop computers, NAS drives, Wi-Fi routers, and CPAP machines continue running without a restart. The included USB-B to USB-A UPS communication cable allows compatible devices to signal a controlled shutdown if the outage is prolonged.

LiFePO4 battery chemistry for long service life:

Both the RIVER 3 Plus and the EB300 use lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells, rated for 3,000 full charge cycles while retaining at least 80% of original capacity. At one full cycle per day, that equates to approximately 8 to 10 years of regular use. X-Guard battery protection monitors the cells via a cloud-based algorithm with over 40 safety measures built in.

App control and port selection:

The RIVER 3 Max connects to the EcoFlow app via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing remote monitoring of charge state, input and output wattage, and estimated runtime. Ports include two USB-A outputs at 12W each, one 100W USB-C port, one 140W USB-C port, one 12V car power output at 126W, and three AC outlets. The battery pack carries an IP54 dust and water resistance rating.

Setup and Care

Getting started:

The EB300 extra battery arrives pre-attached to the RIVER 3 Plus base unit via Pogo Pin connection. Connect the AC charging cable to a standard wall socket to begin charging; the unit reaches full charge in 1.5 hours. Download the EcoFlow app and connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to monitor charge levels and output in real time.

Using as a UPS:

Connect the USB-B to USB-A UPS communication cable between the RIVER 3 Max and a compatible computer or NAS device before a power event occurs. This allows the connected device to receive a signal and initiate a controlled shutdown if the outage continues beyond the unit's runtime. Position the RIVER 3 Max near the devices it is protecting so cable runs remain short and tidy.

Solar and car charging:

For solar charging, connect a compatible EcoFlow solar panel (220W input max) to the solar input port. The car charging cable connects to a standard 12V vehicle socket and charges the unit fully in approximately 3.3 hours. Both methods can be used while the unit is also powering connected devices.

Storage and maintenance:

Store the RIVER 3 Max at between 20°C and 30°C for best battery performance. For long-term storage, EcoFlow recommends keeping the unit charged to around 30% and topping it up approximately every three months. Wipe the outer casing with a dry cloth; avoid exposing the ports to direct water ingress beyond the IP54 rated protection of the battery pack.
