Garmin splits its range by what you intend to train for, and the family name tells you more than the model number. Forerunner is the running line, built around GPS accuracy, pace and training-load metrics, with lower numbers being entry level and higher numbers adding features rather than quality. Venu is the lifestyle and everyday health line, carrying a brighter AMOLED display and a broader wellness feature set, which suits general fitness and daily wear more than race-day analysis. Vivoactive sits between the two as an all-round multisport watch at a lower cost. Instinct is the rugged outdoor line, and solar versions extend battery life substantially by charging from daylight, which is what matters on multi-day use away from a charger. Three practical points decide the buy. Case size, running 41mm to 50mm here, should suit wrist size rather than preference, and the S suffix on a model means the smaller case. Music editions store tracks on the watch itself so a phone is not needed on a run, and that is the single most useful upgrade for runners. Battery life varies enormously by family and by how often GPS is active, so weigh it against how you actually train.

Forerunner covers the 55 in black and grey, the 165 and 165 Music in mist grey and black, the 265 and 265S in whitestone, black, aqua and neo tropick with Music editions, and the 70 at 43mm. Venu covers the Venu 3 and 3S with stainless steel bezels in whitestone, slate, sage grey and french grey, and the Venu 4 at 41mm in lunar gold. Vivoactive covers the 5 in navy and orchid and the 6 in black, bone and pink dawn. Instinct 3 comes as a 45mm and 50mm solar model in black, with a spare USB charging cable also stocked.
